Unwanted e-mail, commonly known as spam, can clutter your inbox and expose your system to potential threats. Fortunately, cPanel offers robust spam filters powered by Apache SpamAssassin™ to help reduce the influx of unwanted emails. This guide will walk you through the steps to set up and configure spam filters effectively in cPanel.

Accessing the Spam Filters Section

To begin, you’ll need to navigate to the spam filters section in cPanel.

Step 1: Log In to cPanel

Home > Email > Spam Filters

First, log in to your cPanel account. Once logged in, navigate to the Email section and click on Spam Filters.

Enabling and Configuring Spam Filters

Once you have accessed the spam filters section, you can enable and customize the spam filters according to your needs.

Step 1: Enable Spam Filters

Spam Filters > Enable Spam Filters

On the Spam Filters page, enable the option Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam to activate the spam filters.

Step 2: Configure Auto-Delete Settings (Optional)

Spam Filters > Configure Auto-Delete Settings

If you want to automatically delete emails marked as spam, click on Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete). Adjust the threshold score according to your preference.

Step 3: Customize Spam Filters

Spam Filters > Show Additional Configurations

To further customize spam filters, click on Show Additional Configurations. Here, you can set up whitelists for trusted senders and blacklists for known spammers, as well as adjust spam score settings.

Managing Spam Filters

You can manage the existing spam filters and adjust them as necessary to improve your spam protection.

Step 1: Edit Whitelist and Blacklist

Spam Filters > Edit Spam Whitelist/Blacklist Settings

Edit the whitelist to allow specific email addresses to bypass the spam filters. Edit the blacklist to block emails from known spammers.

Step 2: Disable Spam Filters (If Needed)

Spam Filters > Disable Spam Filters

If necessary, you can disable the spam filters temporarily by unchecking the Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam option.

By following these steps, you can effectively manage and reduce unwanted e-mail using cPanel's spam filters, keeping your inbox clean and your communications secure. Regularly updating your spam filter settings will help ensure that only legitimate emails reach your inbox while unwanted messages are filtered out.
