Two-Factor Authentication and Encryption: Your First Line of Defense

If you do only two things for security this quarter, make them two-factor authentication and encryption. Together they neutralise the two most common ways data is stolen: guessed passwords and intercepted data.

Why 2FA matters so much

A password can be phished, reused or leaked. Two-factor authentication adds a second proof — a code or device — so a stolen password alone is not enough to get in. It blocks the overwhelming majority of account takeovers.

What encryption protects

Encryption scrambles data so that even if it is intercepted or a disk is stolen, it is unreadable without the key. You want it in two places.

  • In transit — every connection over HTTPS/TLS.
  • At rest — sensitive fields and backups stored encrypted.
  • Secrets and keys kept out of code and rotated.

These are table stakes, not luxuries — and they are easy to get subtly wrong. Linkysoft bakes strong authentication and encryption into every system we build.
