Authentication and input handling are where most attacks land. Validate everything the user sends, parameterise database queries, and never trust data just because it came from your own form.
Reduce what an attacker can reach
If something is compromised, the damage should be contained. Give every account and service only the access it truly needs, and keep secrets out of your code.
- Hash passwords properly and enforce two-factor authentication.
- Validate and sanitise every input; use prepared statements.
- Serve everything over HTTPS and set secure headers.
- Patch dependencies — outdated libraries are an open door.
- Apply least privilege to users, services and database accounts.
- Log security events and review them.
- Back up regularly and test that you can restore.
