Definition
App Store Optimization is the work that makes an app easy to find inside the App Store and Google Play. People search in a store much as they search on Google, typing things like gym booking or delivery for my shop. What you put in the name, the subtitle and the description decides whether your app shows up at all.
The name carries the most weight, and Apple gives you only thirty characters for it. An app called Nadia Salon tells the store nothing. Nadia Salon Book a Haircut tells it what the app is for and puts real search words in the strongest place. Apple also gives you a hidden keyword field of one hundred characters, separated by commas, with no repeat of any word already in the name. Google has no keyword field and reads your description instead, so those words must sit in sentences people would happily read.
Screenshots do more selling than the words do. Most people never open the description. They swipe the first two or three pictures and decide there. Write a short line across the top of each screenshot saying what that screen does, and show the app doing the job rather than an empty home screen. Remember the first three lines of the description too, because that is all anyone sees before the more button. Almost nobody reads what sits below it.
This is not website SEO, and treating it as the same job wastes months. There are no backlinks, no articles to write, no links to earn from other sites. A store ranks on different things: how many people install the app after seeing it, how many still have it a week later, the rating, and how often it crashes. One angry review sits on the page and costs installs every day. Fixing the crash behind it moves you further than any keyword will. That is why Linkysoft treats the store page as part of the digital marketing plan instead of an afterthought.
One habit beats every trick. Change a single thing at a time, the icon or the first screenshot or the subtitle, and watch installs for two weeks before changing the next. Both stores let you run two versions against each other, and the winner is often the opposite of what the office expected. When Linkysoft finishes a mobile app, the store page is written before launch day in every language the app is sold in, because a translated listing reaches people an English one never will.
