Biometric login is when an app opens because it recognises your fingerprint or your face, instead of asking you to type something. Your phone already does this at the lock screen. A well-built app can use the same check to open a payroll screen, a patient file or a bank balance.

The part that surprises people is where the fingerprint lives. It never leaves your phone. It is not sent to the company that made the app, and it is not kept on their server. The phone holds a mathematical pattern inside a protected chip, and all the app ever receives is a yes or a no. So a break-in at that company cannot hand a thief your fingerprint, because the company never had it.

Against a four-digit PIN this is both safer and faster. There are only ten thousand possible four-digit PINs, and most people pick a birthday. A face check takes under a second. Nothing to forget, nothing to write on the back of a card, nothing for someone to read over your shoulder at the counter. Staff also stop lending each other codes, and that is the quiet reason many managers ask for it.

Now the honest limit. Biometric login protects the phone in your hand. It does not protect the account behind it. If your password was stolen from a company server in an old leak, a criminal signs in from their own laptop and your fingerprint never enters the story.
